Closing Night and The Francie Awards

Closing night at CFF has come to mean only one thing – ‘The Francies’. Named in honour of Francie Brady in Pat McCabe’s ‘The Butcher Boy’, the awards have been designed by Jason Crowley. Jason responded to the motif of the pig, which is central to ‘The Butcher Boy’, and fashioned these memorable awards in solid bronze.

Mary is sent to live with her great aunt in the countryside. One day in the woods, she discovers a mysterious blue flower that only appears once every seven years, as well as an old broomstick. Before long Mary has discovered the Endor College of Magic, a secretive school for witches, which is presided over by Madam Mumblechook.

Filmed over several years by director Frank Shouldice and DOP Dave Perry, 'The Man Who Wanted to Fly' tells the irresistible story of 80-something Bailieborough bachelor farmer Bobby Coote. He left school at 13 and says his reading and writing isn't great. Bobby fixes clocks and spends a lot of time in his back shed making violins from old furniture. But he has never lost sight of a lifelong dream to fly.
